About the programme

The Cyber Security specialisation track will give you profound and substantial education and expertise in the field of security and technology for networked systems. The technological topics covered in the programme include security of smart environments, system and network security, security of communication systems and applications, and designing secure systems.

You will explore both technological and theoretical scientific advances in the field and apply them to practice. After graduating, you will have a strong technological, theoretical and practical understanding of cybersecurity. With these new knowledge and skills, you will be able to proceed to build a successful career in securing the information and communication technology industry.

The Cyber Security specialisation track is a member of the EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology) Digital Master School in Cyber Security. The programme also has a EUR-ACE® accreditation.

The specialisation in Cyber Security is one of five tracks in the Master’s Degree Programme in Information and Communication Technology. In addition to Cyber Security, the programme offers four other specialisation tracks:

  • Cryptography,
  • Data Analytics,
  • Robotics and Autonomous Systems,
  • and Software Engineering.

Programme Structure

The scope of the Master of Science in Technology (DI) degree is 120 ECTS credit points, and the degree is divided into the following modules for the Cyber Security track:

  • Joint advanced studies of the ICT degree program, 20 credits
  • Studies in Communication and Cyber Security Engineering, 20 credits
  • Advanced studies in Communication and Cyber Security Engineering, 10 credits
  • Master’s thesis, 30 credits
  • Thematic module or minor subject, 20-25 credits
  • Elective studies, 15-20 credits

In the master’s thesis in Technology, you will prove your ability to perform scientific work, skilfulness in research methods, knowledge of the research field, and skill of scientific writing. To complete the master’s thesis, you will need to apply your technological skills and abilities. You will identify an engineering problem, study its relevance to the field, propose and design a solution, test and analyse it, and evaluating its merit.

Master’s degree (Technology) also gives you eligibility for scientific postgraduate degree studies – doctoral and licentiate degrees. Degrees can be completed within the University of Turku Graduate School (UTUGS) and Doctoral Programmes.
